Questions we hear most.
The quick answers first. If yours is not here, the Help Team is one message away.
How do I register my nickname?
NationCHAT uses GNUWorld (Undernet-style) services, so you register a username with X rather than a nickname. Create it at services.nationchat.org or start with `/msg X hello`. Each session, log in with `/msg x@channels.nationchat.org login <username> <password>`.
What is the Webchat?
The webchat lets you connect to the network directly in your browser, no IRC client needed. Open it from the "Connect Now" button.
Do you offer IPv6 access?
Yes, and we are proud to have been the first network on GNUWorld services to offer IPv6. Use irc6.nationchat.org, or newyork6 / sanjose6.nationchat.org.
How do I get a custom vHost?
Log in to X and set `/mode YourNick +x` to hide your host as username.users.nationchat.org. For a custom vhost, send a request on the Vhost page or ask the Vhost Team in #help.
What is the BNC service?
Our free ZNC bouncer fleet keeps your nick and connections alive 24/7. Request an account in #NationBNC.
Someone is harassing me? What do I do?
Ignore them, and report to the Abuse Team in #help or via our Complaints form. Do not engage or retaliate.
Can I link my own server?
Yes. We accept stable, high-bandwidth servers. Review the requirements in Applications or contact the Routing Committee.
Is my private data logged?
No. Private messages are not logged, and connection logs are purged after 48 hours.
